~ Art Journal Caravan 2013: Itinerary #1 ~

Tangie has completely revamp the Art Journal Caravan and changed the theme. This year we are visiting countries and the first port of call is the United Kingdom. After pondering over it, I've chosen to do Famous People and went for Shakespeare. I did his books for Literature (both at 'O' and 'A' Levels). My favourite has to be Macbeth. I really must go and see the play. So here's my tribute to the Bard!

 Supplies:
Anna Aspnes: Artsy Kardz Storm, ArtPlay Palette Storm
Maya de Groot: Cheerio
Font: SmithyXY-Very Heavy

yOn my page, the quote came from 'As You Like It'. The image of the 3 women are the witches from Macbeth. The words on the top left hand corner is from Othello and the characters involved in the play. Finally, found a leaflet about Anthony and Cleopatra (that has got to be the most boring play I've done... maybe it was the teacher who taught it... he made it so boring that many students skipped his lecture, moi included). I have to say, I had so much fun doing this page. Shakespeare and related images are taken from the web. Found some interesting images which I incorporated into this page. If I have time, might do another page as there is so much to talk about the UK! TTFN!

~ Art Journal Caravan 2013 ~

Yup, I signed up for another year of Art Journal Caravan, led by Tangie Baxter at Scrapbookgraphics. I enjoyed doing it last year (although I've not completed all, still working on the missing ones). This year is even more interesting as she has revamped the theme and changed the format completely! Got to give it to her... that gal is a genius!

To start the year long programme, Tangie has asked us to make a passport stamp and to write a letter. Here's my stamp for this year:

I wanted a word that is antonym to 'procrastinate' and the closest I got was 'proactive'. That will do! Hence, my personal stamp for this journey, to get ahead and to do what I have to do!

My letter and why I want to do the AJC. Incidentally, this page was created from a kit by Rebecca Mcmeen called 'Elle'.

A good start to the Art Journal Caravan! TTFN!

~ Art Journal Caravan: Itinerary #12 ~

This week's prompt was given early as Tangie has a digi scrapbook convention to attend the weekend! Lucky her. Wonder what's it's like to go to one.... sheesh, it would be fun! Talk about not having to cart all the stash... just the laptop & external hard disks!

Looking at the prompts given, I settled for the quote. I couldn't resist getting a couple of new mixed media kits too and this is what I came up:

New kits by Rebecca Mcmeen: Wren & Studio Mix19: Glorious Vision. Also added Anna Aspnes' ArtPlay Palette Metro Graffiti set too.

Need to work on previous Itineraries. I will eventually catch up!

On the routine side, the wee one had a concert in his school in the evening. Well, he has another one next Tuesday at Adrian Boult Hall and both of them are due to play in their violin teacher's concert next Friday. Lots of photo opportunities coming up! Then it's the Easter break! Yippee! Can't wait! TTFN!

~ Art Journal Caravan 2012: Itinerary #2 ~

For this particular journal, I combined two categories:

What I would write on a fortune cookie and I chose the quote that was given as I liked it. I went for an Oriental theme as I was dying to play with a new kit that I bought. Here's my journal:

Tumble Fish Studio: East Is West Bundle
Anna Aspnes: Asian Script No1

Slowly trying to catch up but I'm certainly enjoying the process. Tangie Baxter sure knows how to give a good class as I'm looking forward to every Friday now! TTFN!

~ Art Journey Caravan 2012: Letter & Itinerary #1 ~

At the start of the Art Journal Caravan, we were asked to write a letter to ourselves, to remind ourselves why we are doing it. After pondering over it, here's my letter:

I want to improve on the use of Photoshop, learn new skills, experiment and play and think outside the box!

I started to look at Itinerary #1. There were a few categories but I finally settled on this:

The word given was 'clandestine'. I found an image of this particular couple and invented a story line...

All I can say is that I'm having so much fun doing it! Nice to be able to chuck various images, play with brushes, paints, mists, all digitally on a page! I'm kinda scrapped out at the moment so I'm glad to let my mind wander into another area of creating. TTFN!

~ Art Journal Caravan 2012: Itinerary #7 ~

I'm working backward on my AJC2012. Today, I look at Itinerary #7 and decided on the word 'dulcet'. I went for a musical theme. Here's my art journal:

I had the image of my boys professionally drawn by SJ Dowsett a few years back and I used it for this art journal.

It's nice to involve them in my art journals! I don't particularly like using photos on art journals as I feel it then becomes a scrapbook page instead! To me, art journals is an expression of one's creative thoughts no matter how absurd it will be. It pushes one to think outside the box and to indulge in one's imagination. Yes, you can employ art journaling techniques on scrapbook pages but certainly not modern day photos on art journaling pages! I checked out the definition on art journal...

An art diary, art journal or visual journal is a daily journal kept by artists, often containing both words and sketches, and occasionally including Mixed media elements such as collages. ...

Hence, I was particularly disappointed with Jessica Sprague's Digital Art Journaling when she used family photos on her art journals (well, just one of her sample pages). It just ceased to become an art journal for me, instead, more a scrapbook page. There should be a clear distinction between scrapbook page and art journal. Saying that, one can argue about the use of vintage photo images. To me, vintage signifies the old, behind the times and most likely if a vintage person is used, that person probably isn't around anymore. There is a certain charm using vintage images.

Then again, art is so subjective! If a person wants to employ modern day photos on his/her art journals so be it! For me, I'll leave modern photos on scrapbook pages and go for the extraordinary on art journals! TTFN!

~ Art Journal Caravan 2012: Itinerary #8 ~

Earlier this month, I bought Tangie Baxter's Art Journal Caravan 2012 workshop. It's a year long and it focuses on art journaling. I've heard about it and seen people doing it and decided to give it a go. Every Friday, she comes out with prompts for art journaling. Sometimes there are also tutorials too. So far I've picked up a few tips about Photoshop and have learnt some new digi skills. I'm quite impressed with it so far and looking forward to future prompts.

Available at Scrapbookgraphics.

Anyway, today I decided to try it out. I picked out a few prompts and combined them and came up with this:

Itinerary #8: It's a mixture of the word 'aplomb', travel and the quote.

I certainly had a lot of fun putting it together! Can't wait to play more! TTFN!
